Recently, there has been some great coverage on Sky News about Prevented Ocean Plastic. POP is doing amazing work in Indonesia.
If you are unaware, Prevented Ocean Plastic is recycled plastic which is collected from the ocean. The areas which the plastic is collected from are at high risk of plastic pollution. The POP project saves tonnes of plastic from the ocean and this is used to remake wonderful packaging instead of creating more waste in our environment. The risk of harm to things such as marine life are an amazing benefit of Prevented Ocean Plastic.
The Daily Climate Show on Sky News spoke with Raffi Schieir, Director of Bantam Materials, who spoke about how collection centres will change lives for people who live on Indonesian islands. ‘People who are living on islands, where there is no government collection and no one comes and picks up and takes away all of their rubbish will now have an outlet to collect their plastic and bring it in to collection and recycling centres.’
The new centres will open in Indonesia, which has the second highest ‘mismanaged plastic’ rate after China. Mismanaged plastic means plastic waste that is not properly disposed of and is at high risk of polluting the ocean.
At Staeger we’re proud to use Prevented Ocean Plastic in our feedstock. You can find out more about it here.
