The lack of PPE in the NHS is worrying, but government’s lack of action is anxiety inducing, with individulas requesting PPE for their relatives working on the NHS frontlines.
Ian Jamie, the Managing Director at Staeger Clear Packaging, participated in an interview by the Financial Times expressing his frustration with the lack of action and response from the government over the potential supply of PPE. Currently producing over 200,000 face visors a week, Staeger has the capacity to increase production up to 500,000 face visors a week given that these actions are financially backed by the government, to cover the costs.
Staeger has already been approached by a number of hospitals around the country, but that was on an individual basis – which even included worried relatives of NHS staff members – rather than through official government procurement. Staeger has also been donating PPE packages to smaller health care organisations around the country who do not have the resources to procure them independently.
The Government’s actions – or rather the lack of them – do seem strange, with many individuals and companies asking “What are they waiting for?”.
