Nowadays, there is an overwhelming choice of Private Protective Equipment (PPE) on the market. So much so, that one can be overwhelmed by the multitude of choices and suffer a serious case of decision fatigue.
There have been many debates over what type of PPE option is the most effective for protecting yourself against the virus. Many are asking whether it’s worth buying a surgical-style mask or whether a plastic Face Visor would be a better investment. What is the difference?
Actually, the difference between the two is quite significant. For one, they are made for different purposes. A face shield is there to ward off any liquid particles from landing on your face including the eyes and the mouth. All of it. So there is no need for additional eye protection. But it’s not designed to block minute particles in the air from being breathed in. And this can be an issue if you’re sharing non-ventilated space with an infected individual since the virus is thought to remain air borne in certain conditions for up to 30 minutes.
On the other hand, a surgical-style face mask only covers your mouth and nose, leaving the eyes vulnerable to infection. But these masks – which can be tightly secured to your face – are fitted with multiple layers of filters to block off as many tiny particles from reaching your mouth.
Whilst a face shield can be disinfected and used again, a face mask should be disposed of regularly as it’s not washable and it absorbs the virus particles.
It really does depend on each individual case. But, for maximum protection, we recommend purchasing both the masks and the face visors. Our face masks are packed in a pack of 50 and can be easily disposed of after use. And our face visors can be easily disinfected and used again. Then, they can be also easily disposed of by recycling.
