From May 1 2008, Clear Packaging of Coventry will become a member of the Staeger Group of Companies. The acquisition follows the previously announced agreement in October 2007 that the two companies would work together in close co-operation financial participation.
The new name of the company will be Staeger Clear Packaging, reflecting the new ownership.
Clear Packaging is well known in the United Kingdom as one of the leading plastic carton, sleeve lid and base producers. It had a turnover of £3.25 million in 2007 and employs 25 people. The company won the coveted Starpack Business of the Year Award in 2007 and has recently successfully launched its “CLEArPET” environmentally friendly RPET material with a 50/60% Post-Consumer Waste content. It also has BRC/IOP Accreditation for Food Grade Packaging.
Staeger and Co AG of Switzerland is a progressive company, one of Europe and leading transparent plastic packaging and thermoformed packaging producers, with a turnover of £15 million. It has DIN ISO 9001 Certification as well as BRC/IOP accreditation. Staeger has headquarters and main production unit in Muri, Switzerland, a sales office in Germany and participation in a manufacturing plant in Turkey.
For the future Staeger Clear Packaging is committed to its location in Coventry, West Midlands. A skilled workforce and an established UK production facility are important for its UK customer base. Therefore investment is planned in new equipment at Coventry, involving machinery for lids and bases and cylindrical/round drums and containers. The company also has a joint venture production unit in China for customers seeking packaging from an off-shore source.
The new business will have a greater critical mass, enabling the company to offer the Total Packaging Solution. This could involve the undertaking of projects that require every type of packaging, right through from plastic cartons, lids and bases to thermoformed packaging and vac-formes, boards cartons, rigid boxes, labels, closures and other materials requirements.
The existing Clear Packaging senior management of Ian Jamie, Managing Director, Chris Page, Commercial Director, Neil Farmer, Marketing Director and Peter Frisby, Production Director, will remain with the new business. The company will benefit from the sales expertise of Jon Bullimore who joins as Sales Director. Thorsten Seufert, Group Sales Director of Staeger Verpackungen will also join the board to add his expertise and knowledge of the industry in Europe.
One of the important advantages of the new company will be ability to offer innovation to enable customers to gain that most vital objective, product differentiation at the point of purchase. Retailers and FMCG producers are seeking a new shape of pack, material or process that can transform a brand and help achieve volume sales growth. With its enhanced design facilities, including ISDN links between Coventry and Switzerland, its quick 24 hour sample making service, enhanced manufacturing capabilities and in-house litho and silk screen printing, Staeger Clear Packaging will offer an unrivalled service in this respect.
The new Staeger Clear Packaging business is set for growth and confident of achieving even greater success in 2008.
